Maimunatu, a housewife in Bauchi stabs her husband to death

Bauchi state police command have detained Maimunatu Sulaimsn, a 21-year-old housewife from Kofar Dumi area, on suspicion of culpable murder.

The couple reportedly got into an argument, and the suspect was charged of stabbing her husband, Aliyu Mohammed.

Police statement said, “Acted on information received on 5th July 2023 at about 2340hrs, the detectives attached to the Township Divisional Police headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer immediately rushed to the crime scene of the incident at the given address”.

The statement signed by the Bauchi Police Command Acting PPRO, ASP Aminu Goma Ahmed, sa’id that the operatives on arrival took both the victim and the suspect to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for medical attention.

“Consequently, reports obtained from medical doctors confirmed that the victim died as a result of an injury sustained on his chest, while the suspect sustained minor bruises on her stomach”, Ahmed said.

Police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect (Maimuna Suleiman) stabbed her husband Aliyu Mohammad of the same address as a result of an altercation that ensued between them on the 5th of July, 20223 in their matrimonial home.

The suspect had during interrogation confessed to having committed the crime, following which the Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammad directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation.

This, according to the commissioner, is to further unravel the circumstances that surround the death of the victim, after which  the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

Unconfirmed reports however told the ABC news that the incident occurred as a result of the late husband’s decision to take a second wife.

It was also gathered the couple who have been living peacefully and have a three-year old child, couples with the fact that the wife is also under pregnancy, when the incident happened as a result of the husband’s desire to take a second wife.
