Installation of a liquefied natural gas tank at the Maiduguri Emergency Gas Power Plant has been completed.
Greenville LNG, the company contracted for the project confirmed the development in a statement issued through its LinkedIn page on Friday.
‘We are pleased to announce that Greenville LNG, in partnership with NNPC, has achieved a successful and on-schedule installation of the LNG tank and equipment at the Maiduguri Power Plant.
‘This collaborative project holds great promise for driving positive economic growth and creating new business opportunities in Borno, Maiduguri.
‘The successful completion of this endeavor further underscores Greenville’s steadfast commitment to leadership in the oil and gas sector and its unwavering dedication to promoting the utilization of gas in Nigeria,’ the statement read,’ part of the statement read.
The 50-megawatt power plant was initially designed with a diesel and gas competent.
President Muhammadu Buhari, March 2, 2023 officially commissioned the project with only the diesel component.
The completion of the gas component is considered another milestone achievement for the reliable and sustainable electricity generation.
The power project was necessitated by the extended power outages experienced in the state capital as a result of vandalism of transmission line along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road by the insurgents.
This installation LNG tank, by Greenville, means the gas power plant can begin full operation and supply of power to Borno state and environs.
