YOBE: Abducted Dapchi girls breaks record in school

Some of the released Dapchi school girls who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorist group five years ago, have passed their West African Examination Council, WAEC, with flying colors, breaking the school’s all time record.

Following their released by the terrorist group after many months, the girls proceeded with their studies and sat for SSCE this year.

Recalled that on Monday, February 19, 2018, Boko Haram insurgents invaded Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe state, abducting 110 of the 906 student population.

Dr Mohammmed Goje, the executive secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, YOSEMA, who broke the news told MAIDAWAAREWA on Wednesday.

According to Goje, the state government will encourage teachers of the school with a token, adding that all the girls that score A1 in mathematics would be sponsored for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB examination.

“We will encourage the teachers with a token and sponsor the jamb registration of all the girls that scored A1 in math. Even if they pay for themselves, we will refund them” he said.

The principal, Hajiya Amina Ali said she encouraged them to work hard on their studies knowing how they were traumatized by the terrorists.

Despite their tragic experiences, “the girls were not discouraged from performing,” the principal noted.

Some of the students are, Usman Maryam Musa, Yakubu Fatima Audu, Muhammed Fatima Abdulmalik, and Bashir Fatima among others as seen on their results.
