The Government of Adamawa State has announced its plan to procure an additional 31 buses in the state.
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, governor of the state made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with an 18-member house of representatives ad-hoc committee.
The committee was formed to investigate the failures of previous mass transit initiatives in the country.
MaidawaArewa had last month reported that Gov. Fintiri procured 10 buses as part of palliative to cushion the hardship residents of the state are going through.
With this plan, his government will procured 41 buses in total.
In a statement by Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor’s spokesman, the governor highlighted the importance of a workable and sustainable transport system, stating that even without the removal of fuel subsidy, there is a need for such a system in the country.
He stressed the significance of supporting Nigerian industries by patronizing locally made vehicles.
‘This approach will not only boosts the economy but also ensures the availability of transportation services, which is essential for economic growth,’ the governor said.
Also in the statement, Gov. Fintiri revealed other developmental plans of his administration for the state.
The projects includes, Child and Mother Care Hospital in Yola, establishing 21 model creche primary and junior secondary schools, and constructing 3 model senior secondary schools across the senatorial zones.
‘He also mentioned the upcoming construction projects, such as the Mubi Roundabout flyover and the Super Highway from Welcome to Yola to AA Lawan Junction,’ Wonosikou said.
While responding, Mr. Victor Akpor Egene, the Chairman of the committee, commended the governor’s administration for its infrastructural projects, particularly the roads in the state capital.
He appreciated the government’s decision to patronize Innoson Motors, encouraging other governments to follow suit for the overall development of the country’s economy.
He condoled the governor over the recent incidents of boat mishaps that occured in the state few weeks ago.
Mr. Egene emphasized the urgent need for the country to design and implement a comprehensive scheme that would enhance the safety of waterways for the people.
‘His statement underscores the importance of improving safety measures on water transport routes, ensuring that citizens can travel safely and securely,’ Wonosikou added.
The chairman expressed concerns about waterway safety and suggested the need for a scheme to make water transport safer for people.
‘These initiatives and plans reflect the Adamawa State Government’s commitment to improving transportation services, promoting local industries, and ensuring the overall well-being and safety of its citizens,’ the spokesman further said.
