Sen. Elisha Abbo, who was sacked by the Court of Appeal on Monday, has apologized to Senate President Godswill Akpabio after accusing him of plotting his sack.
Abbo had held a press conference hours after his sack on Monday to allege that Akpabio had plotted his sack, noting that four other senators were also marked to be removed through the court at the senate president’s instance because they did not support his bid to lead the 10th Senate.
However, Abbo made a u-turn on Wednesday, saying that his press briefing was premature and that the senate president was not behind his sack.
He said this in an interview on Arise TV.
‘I have to say with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we issued was premature.
‘We discovered a lot of things thereafter and yesterday night I had a discussion with the Senate President and I am convinced that he was not involved,’ Abbo said.
He added that the senate president swore to him on the grave of his mother that he was not involved.
‘I swear by my mother’s grave that I am not involved, I don’t even know that you’re court,; Abbo quoted the senate president as having told him, based on the interview’s transcript by PUNCH Newspaper.
By that, Mr. Abbo said he was convinced of his innocence.
Mr. Akpabio had earlier also issued a statement distancing himself from the allegations.
Abbo’s apology will come to many as a surprise, as he had been very vocal in his accusations against Akpabio.
Recall that the Court of Appeal on Monday ordered INEC to issue certificate of return to Amos Yohanna Kumai of the PDP,
