The husband of Late Fatima Alhaji Bukar, 20-year-old housewife killed in Maiduguri, has spoken after his release from police custody.

Mr. Adam Alhaji Bukar was arrested last week as a major suspect by the Borno State Command of the Nigerian Police Force; but was released this afternoon.

Speaking to journalists at his family’s residence, he said ‘the truth has prevailed’, without giving any further details. Similarly, police has not also released any new information on the matter.

‘What happened was a test of my faith and it could happen to anyone,’ he told newsmen.

‘I however have forgiven everyone, including those who tried to malign and tarnish my image. I have forgiven everyone,’ he added.

Mr. Adam who was not even allowed to attend his wife’s funeral proceedings, has been in police custody for over week.

He returned home last Tuesday to find his wife in a pool of her blood, roped and stabbed several times.

He then sought the help of his neighbor and police to rush her to the hospital where she was confirmed to have been long death.

While police did not yet speak on the release, a source in the family told our reporter that another suspect was arrested as prime suspect on Sunday.

Mr. Adam’s release is probably a result of the arrest of a new suspect and emergence of additional information.

According to our source, the new suspect was caught in possession of the deceased’s phone number, while he was trying to sell it at Maiduguri GSM Village, along Kano road.

‘We were informed yesterday that her phone has been found, and it was taken to her husband who is in detention to confirm if the phone belongs to his wife and he confirmed it.

‘I don’t have an idea of how he was arrested, but I have brothers that are working at the GSM village and probably the arrested suspect was tracked down by security operatives or he was there to sell the phone which led to his arrest.

‘During their attack, they stole her phone including the box. On further investigation the phone and the phone’s box were found from the suspect,’ the family member said.

At the time of filling this report the Borno State Police Command is yet to release statement concerning the arrest.
