TARABA: Gov Kefas prohibits all types of mining

Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has prohibited all types of minning in Taraba State.

The Governor who announced this during the signing of an Executive Order on the prohibition of minning and all minning activities across the State at the EXCO Chambers Government House, Jalingo said as the Governor of Taraba State it is his solemn responsibility to protect the well-being of the citizens and preserve the precious resources in the State.

He said the State is blessed with abundant mineral wealth but the wealth should not be at the detriment of the environment and the livelihood of the people.

According to Dr. Agbu Kefas “the unregulated extraction of mineral have led to deforestation, soil erosion, water pollution and loss of biodiversity our rivers have been contaminated affecting the health of the people and jeopsrdizing our Agricultural activities”.

He said his administration Will encourage respionsible minning practices and adhere to strigent enviromental regulations and preriotize the Welfare of the people.

The Governor stated that Law enforcement Agencies Will be empowered to take strict actions against anyone found violating the Order saying that he Will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and explore alternative options for those affected.

“This Executive Order Will serve as a strong message to those who have been engaging on illegal minning activities we Will not abandone our commitment to economic growth but it most be achieved through sustainable means”.

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas urged the Federal Government and Development partners to support the efforts of his administration in restoring the damage caused by years of unchecked minning activities adding that together with the people they should embark on sustainable Development and build a brighter future for Taraba State.
