Taraba Govt. lifts Curfew in Karim Lamido

The Governor of Taraba state, Dr. Agbu Kefas has lifted the Curfew imposed on Karim Lamido Local government and it’s surroundings with immediate effect.

 

The governor lifted the curfew was lifted after a briefing by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari, the chairman, Peace and Reconciliation Committee on the Karimjo Wurkum crisis.

Gov. Kefas had on the 7th of July 2023 relaxed the 24-hour curfew initially imposed by 12 hours after reviewing the security situation with the stakeholders of the affected Communities.

Kefas expressed satisfaction with the return of peace to the area and the readiness of people to now live in harmony with one another.

He also directed that the Peace Committee metamorphosed into a resettlement Committee to oversee the distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons IDPs as the result of the conflict.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Alhaji Inuwa Bakari said, “concerted peace building efforts by the committee had restored normalcy in the affected areas and expressed the need for the lifting of the curfew.”

The governor imposed a 24 hour curfew on July 2nd, 2023 in the area as a result of communal feud between the Karimjo and Wurkum communities over chieftaincy matters.
