A. A. Lawan Uba, a People’s Democratic Party bigwig in Adamawa State has said that Abbas Aminu Iya, the state’s assembly speaker is a ‘monumental failure’ to the state and his constituency.

He said since the speaker was voted into power in 2019, he has done nothing to improve the lives of the people of his constituency.

Lawan said this in a statement obtained from him by this reporter, where he noted that the speaker is only interested in serving his interest.

The speaker is representing Uba/Gaya constituency in Adamawa State House of Assembly.

He came to power with a margin of only 13 votes against Mohammed Hayatu Atiku of All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to Mr. Lawan, having come from the same political party and constituency with the speaker, he has played a vital role in championing the campaign and successes of the speaker during elections but has now regretted doing so because he is not serving the people.

‘Unfortunately, I supported an underperforming lawmaker, it is unfortunate we have a speaker who cannot work for the masses of our dear state and a legislature who is after his personal interest,’ Lawan said.

He added that the speaker is currently hiding behind Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of the state’s successes while scheming his way to national assembly in the forthcoming election and is calling on the governor and the masses to shun away the speaker’s plot.

‘He is busy going around scheming how to contest senatorial seat using Governor Ahmadu’s name. May I please tell my dear governor that this man can’t deliver anything good for our state, he doesn’t have the capacity and is not an electable and saleable political product.

‘His dream of wanting to become a senator for the central zone is a far-fetched one. I cannot see it coming into reality because we are no longer in the business of supporting a failure.

‘This man never contributed meaningfully to the development of our constituency in the floor of the house, I doubt it much if he has any law in the interest of Adamawa state,’ Lawan explained.

Lawan, also a former governorship aspirant in Adamawa, also alleged that the speaker’s victory in 2019 election was done through rigging of the election against the APC candidate.

Revealing how the speaker emerged, Lawan said ‘Iya never won the election, the APC candidate in our area gallantly won with over eight hundred votes, but Aminu received support from all stakeholders and the election was rigged in his favor. But in actual sense, I must tell you and the world should know that the APC man, Hayatu, inarguably won the election.’

However, Mr. Lawan in a chat on phone call with this reporter said that despite being in the same party, he felt it is mandatory to reveal to the world his incompetence because that is one of the major dividence of democracy and it shouldn’t be traded with anything.

He added that his loyalty to the party and government of the state is unshakeable and will continue to serve it wholeheartedly at any level.
