Newcastle scored twice in two minutes to extend their unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-1 win over Brighton.

Ryan Fraser gave Newcastle the lead from a solo run after Jacob Murphy’s effort had bounced back off the post following a quick break.

The Magpies doubled their lead when Fabian Schar headed in from Fraser’s free-kick.

Lewis Dunk scored the only goal for the visitors who remain defeated in their last three games.

Victory moves Newcastle seven points clear of the relegation zone, one place behind Brighton, who slip to 13th after a fourth successive defeat.

Elsewhere,Brentford claimed an important 3-1 win over Norwich,Philippe Coutinho inspired Aston Villa to a 4-0 win with a goal and assist. While Crystal Palace inflicted a third straight defeat for Wolves.
