The nationwide protest scheduled for February 27 and 28 by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the high cost of living in the country has commenced in Nigeria.
NLC had alerted its members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to protest against the hardship being faced by civil servants in Nigeria.
This paper reports that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress had on February 8, issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government over the failure to implement the agreements reached on October 2 following the removal of fuel subsidy.
However, as Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, the union decided to embark on a two-day nationwide protest to press their demands.
Despite security advisory by the Department of State Services, DSS, the union kick-started the protest in many cities across the country.
Aggrieved Nigerians and workers were seen trooping into the Labour House with security operatives in the early hours of Tuesday.
