Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has directed the distribution of diesel to all public boreholes in Damaturu and its environs to ease the problem of water scarcity being faced in the past few days.

The directive was contained in a press statement issued in Damaturu on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali.

The governor stated that there is enough diesel for distribution to enable the powering of all boreholes in the affected areas, promising that the problem would be resolved immediately.

Residents of Damaturu and its environs have been battling with water scarcity due to the destruction of a 330KVA electricity line by some unknown vandals.

This has made it difficult to power borehole generators that supply potable water to residents.

It was gathered that in Damaturu, the state capital, a cart of water is sold between N1,000 and N1,500, depending on the location.
