A former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has appealed to Nigerian Christians to fully participate in politics in order to elect credible leaders.

Speaking in a statement on Thursday at the biennial conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria in Abuja, the former Senate President stated that the old assumption that the church should not get involved in politics remained a critical issue for debate in light of the country’s realities.

He said that Christians should get involved to sanitize the system.

According to him, “A lot of Christians believe that politics is a dirty game, but if politics is truly dirty, Christians should get involved to sanitize and clean it up to serve the purpose for the good of all.”

The former Senate President charged Christian leaders to encourage their faithful to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards in preparation to vote for the candidates of their choice during the 2023 general elections.

He observed that the state of insecurity in the land was lamentable and urged the government to do more to protect and defend her citizens against the mindless murderers, bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers ravaging the country.

Dr Samuel Uche, the Prelate of the Methodist Church, speaking on the theme of the conference, “Preparing for the second coming of Jesus Christ”, explained that the essence of the conference is to raise the consciousness of the Christian community towards its realization and not to be left in the dark.

He assured that the Church is earnestly praying for peace, security, and unity to return to Nigeria, for its citizens to fully undertake their legitimate activities.
