the Nigerian Police force have dismissed 3 of their officers Subsequent to complaints and findings on video evidence widely circulated on Friday 7th April, 2023, on social media of high-handedness, unprofessional conduct, and misuse of firearms against some policemen from Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 1, Kano, and a follow-up orderly room trial of the affected policemen by the Force Provost Marshal, three officers from the SPU Base 1 Kano have been dismissed for the offences of discreditable conduct to wit misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition.

The trio, Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi were attached to a musician in Kano on escort duties. In the course of their duty on Friday 7th April, 2023 at Kahutu Village, Katsina State, the officers repeatedly fired shots from their official firearms into the air despite police policy against firing in the air, standard operating procedure and relevant Force Orders; and disregarding the possible risk to the crowd at the location which included children. The act was not only criminal and unprofessional but also embarrassing to the Force and the nation at large.

In a bulletin made available to MAIDAWAAREWA, the Nigeria Police Force hereby warms all officers to ensure they carry out their duties in line with the extant laws to avoid running foul of its provisions and attracting attendant sanctions. Supervising officers have also been tasked to ensure continuous and detailed lectures of their men to ensure they are well acquainted with all necessary standard operating procedures.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on the residents of the South-East to observe a sit-at-home on May 30, 2023, to honour the “fallen heroes”.

IPOB said the sit-at-home on May 30 is “to honour gallant men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to leave as a people.”

The Nnamdi Kanu-led group made this known in a statement by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, on Tuesday.

“We the global movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to announce to all Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of Biafra freedom across the world that May 30, 2023, is Biafra Heroes Day,” the statement began.

It partly read, “It is a special day set outside to remember our fallen comrades and those who paid the ultimate price for the liberation of Biafra in 1967-1970 and beyond.

“Though Nigeria State removed history from schools and national discourse so that the descendants of Biafra will no longer remember and honour our heroes, IPOB leadership refused to let the labour of our heroes go in vain.

“Therefore, fellow Biafrans, this 30th May 2023 is another sacrosanct day to remember our fallen heroes, heroines and comrades who died in defence of our land and for the birth of the Biafra Nation.

“In line with our culture and respect for our fallen heroes, IPOB has declared the 30th of May, 2023 a sit-at-home in the entire Biafran territory to commemorate the deaths of those murdered for Biafra Independence and freedom.

“IPOB family members should organise and observe this date in any form each country, zone, unit considers best. IPOB leadership advise all to maintain peace and order during the event.

“During the commemoration ceremonies, 3 minutes of silence should be observed for the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price from 1967-1970 till date.”

Prof. Gujbawu: When a Compassionate Soul Departs

0

Not long ago, Prof. Mohammed Gujbawu Haruna phoned and asked me to see him at his residence if I were in Maiduguri.

He said, “Maigana I see you advertising caps on Facebook. I felt I should patronize you.”

I appreciated him and respectfully told him that I will see him at night if that is convenient for him. You could come, he said.

I phoned him the following evening to confirm his availability. He said that I should meet him at the Government House where he and his friends keep fit at night.

I was broke that day. Fortunately, he linked me up with some of his friends who bought some caps from us. Honestly, my friend and I were happy that day.

Interestingly, there was one unique cap that caught the attention of all of them. All of them wanted to buy it. I told him that he should leave it for his friend promising him that he will get his own in 7 weeks in sha Allah. And he agreed.

Recently, I informed him that his cap will be ready in a week. He acknowledged my message saying he will pay me in cash. That was my last communication with him.

This morning, a friend posted on his Whatsapp status that Prof. has passed away. What a delusional world! Indeed, death is a lesson for the wise.

He was a gentleman; very humble and straightforward. I send my condolence to his family, colleagues, friends, and students.

I informed my friend who escorted me to the Government House of the death of our humble customer. He was devastated but that was the will of Allah.

Professor Mohammed Haruna Gujbawu was, until his death, a lecturer with the Department of Mass Communication, University Maiduguri.

Ya Allah, forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest. Ameen.

Igbo Must Organise Immediately For Exit From Nigeria – IPOB

0

Biafra secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has asked the Igbo people to begin to organize themselves for exit from Nigeria over what it described as their unfair treatment by the government.

IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said this in a statement while reacting to reaction of security operatives to protest by the group in Aba, Abia State during which some members were killed.

The IPOB members were allegedly protesting for the released of their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Powerful noted that while security agents allegedly attacked members of the group during a peaceful protest in Aba, Abia State, they allowed members of the Islamic Shi’ites to protest peacefully twice in Abuja without any molestation.

This, he claimed, indicated that Igbo people were no wanted in Nigeria.

“It is now on record that Ndigbo is not wanted in Nigeria due to the hatred shown to us,” Powerful lamented in the statement.

Consequently, he said Igbo people must organize themselves immediately and exit Nigeria for other nationalities who are allowed to operate freely in the country.

… Happy Easter

In Friday’s Easter message to citizens, President Muhammadu Buhari urged Nigerians to seek legal avenues for addressing any grievances they may have regarding the results of the 2023 general elections.

MAIDAWAAREWA reports that the President, in a statement personally signed by him, highlighted the significance of Easter as a celebration of light overcoming darkness.

Buhari emphasized that the 2023 Easter holiday symbolises the potential for a bright future and renewed hope for the country.

The statement reads:

“I join Christians in Nigeria and around the world to celebrate Easter, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, signposting his victory over death.

“At the heart of Easter is the triumph of light over darkness.

“It is a season that reminds us that the Almighty can turn an unpleasant situation round for good.

“Recognising that Easter is about renewed hope and a glorious future, I urge all Nigerians to continue to be confident and believe strongly in our country for better seasons ahead.

“As a nation, we have gone through an election that has produced the next set of leaders at the federal and State levels.

“I commend Nigerians for believing in the process. While I congratulate those that have been elected, I acknowledge that it is the right of those who feel dissatisfied with the outcome to seek redress. I expect them to wait patiently and allow our legal system to run its course.

“It has been a rare privilege for me to serve as your President since you gave me the first mandate in 2015 and renewed it in 2019.

“Day after day, I have been guided by the vows I took to keep Nigeria united, prosperous and secure.

“Our successes on security, economy, infrastructure, new oil frontier basins, landmark legal reforms as well as food sufficiency, among others, were possible because of the support of Nigerians.

“As we celebrate this season with our families, neighbours and communities, let us do so in love, compassion, kindness, resilience and forgiveness.

“Happy Easter!”
