NAAT Suspends Nationwide Strike For 3 Months

0

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has suspended its nationwide strike for three months.

National President of NAAT, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, stated this while addressing journalists after the National Executive Council meeting of the union in Abuja on Thursday.

Nwokoma said NAAT had embarked on strike on March 21, 2022, to press home its demands which include non-full implementation of FGN/NAAT 2009 agreement, refusalto release enabling circular for the implementation of CONTISS 14 and 15 for academic technologists, non-payment of the arrears of Earned Academic Allowances to our members, among others.

He said the union following a robust engagement with the government was able to secure commitments and resolutions on some of its demands, even as it rejected the ‘No work, No pay’ policy of the Federal Government.

He listed commitments secured from the Federal Government to include the release of enabling circular on CONTISS 14 and 15, agreements on payment of arrears of minimum wage/consequential adjustments, payment of occupational hazard allowance, implementation of responsibility allowance, among others.

“Following this understanding with Government, NAAT as a democratic union directed all her branches to conduct referendum on whether to suspend or continue the strike action. The National Executive Council of NAAT met and considered the results from branches today Thursday 25th August, 2022.

“The result of the referendum from branches showed that 80.56% voted in favour of suspension of the strike while 19.44% voted for continuation of the strike action.

” Subsequently, NEC came to the conclusion that the demands of NAAT were substantially being addressed.

Consequent upon the above result, calls and appeals by well-meaning Nigerians, students, parents and other critical stakeholders, NEC in session, in the interest of the Nation unanimously resolved to suspend the ongoing strike action for three (3) months to enable government address all the issues at stake, effective from midnight of Friday, 26th August, 2022.

“By this development, all NAAT members in tertiary institutions are directed to resume work with effect from the date stated above. NAAT, therefore requests that students especially final year project students/researchers with on-going research activities and other unfinished practical works can come over and would be attended to.

“On the Federal Government of Nigeria position to invoke the No work, No pay rule, NAAT totally reject this in its entirety as we are not the architect of the prolonged strike action but rather FG’s failure to address all the contending issues promptly. It should be noted that NAAT complied with all laid down procedures before embarking on the industrial action. Therefore, NAAT demands in strong terms the payment of our withheld salaries without delay.”

He further said at the expiration of the three-month window period, NAAT will not hesitate to resume the suspended strike action without notice if all the issues agreed upon with the Government are not holistically addressed.

Chairman of the Joint Service Union, PSC chapter, on Thursday, disclosed that members of the Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission (PSC), will embark on an indefinite strike following the taking over of the commission’s duty by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.

Announcing the strike action in a statement on Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Adoyi Adoyi, said the strike action would begin on Monday August 29, 2022.

According to him, “We’re embarking on an indefinite strike from Monday, August 29, to show how discontent with the way the PSC is being run by the chairman of the commission, and the flagrant disregard for the constitution, the court of law, and the PSC by the IGP, Usman Baba.

“The duties of the PSC are spelt out in the constitution, but the IGP has disregarded all of that, and has taken over the duties of the commission, adding that he appoints and promotes at will as opposed to what is stated in the constitution.”

Adoyi, while quoting the constitution stated that the appointment, promotion, and recruitment of police officers and constables are the prerogative of the PSC, not the IGP.

However, the decision to embark on strike was to strike a balance between the workers of the commission, the Chairman of the commission, Mr Musiliu Smith, and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, on which body should be responsible for recruitment, promotion, and appointment of constables and officers.

Recalls that the PSC had announced it had opened portal for the recruitment of constables. But, less than 24 hours later, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters asked members of the public to disregard the portal and asked all applicants to wait until it opened the portal.

Some personnel of Borno State Police Command and members of the Civilian Joint Taskforce (CJTF), on Thursday morning, took over the main campaign office of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) located at Abaganaran area of Maiduguri metropolis.

The NNPP secretariat located at the densely populated Abaganaran was locked up with Police armoured vehicles stationed at the entrance gate of the party office.

This is even as the Police also arrested the Borno Central Senatorial candidate of the party, Alhaji Attom Mohammad Magira, who is also the leader of the party in the State.

Combined personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and members of the CJTF were mounted strategically in the front of the party secretariat, keeping party supporters and passers-by off from assessing the NNPP campaign office.

It was gathered that the secretariat, which was sealed on the order of the Borno State government, was shut down by the State Urban Planning Authority on the ground that the party building is situated in a residential area not meant for political party activities.

He added that, apart from taking over the new secretariat, the police arrested him and took him to the State Police Command in Maiduguri.

“Yes I can confirm to you that I have been arrested by the police this morning Thursday. Currently I am at the Borno State Police Command, and very soon, I was told that my phone will be seized from me.

“I took this opportunity to inform you the situation we are right now, and please help us tell the world what is happening to NNPP Secretariat and my humble self.

“I suspect that this is not ordinarily, but the handiwork of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum,” Magira added.

Also, in a swift reaction, the chairman of the ruling APC in the state, Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, dismissed the claims by Hon. Attom that APC was behind the sealing of the NNPP Secretariat or arrest of any of its member by the Police.

“I want to inform you that APC in Borno is not connected to a sealing of NNPP secretariat as alleged by Hon. Attom.

“I am just hearing this from you, and if Hon Attom was arrested and now in police custody, they should try and sort out their problem or misunderstanding with the police, but not to drag our great party, APC into it.”

Tinubu Is Nigeria’s Next President, Says Masari

0

The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, has said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is the next President of Nigeria “Insha Allah.”

Masari said this during an interview with TVC, monitored by our correspondent on Wednesday.

“Who is better than him in the political terrain of Nigeria today?” Masari asked when asked to speak on Tinubu’s chances in the 2023 presidential election.

Asked if the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, was better, he said, “I don’t know him. Somebody who was a governor of Anambra? Go and ask a Katsina man and the politicians, how many of them know Peter Obi? We are talking about a presidential candidate of Nigeria, somebody who has cut all barriers – tribal, religious, regional, name it.”

On the presidential candidat of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, he said, “I think Atiku is a formidable force but our force is greater than him and he knows that. He is a veteran of contesting elections and also a veteran loser.”

The governor dismissed talks that 2023 is Atiku’s best chance of becoming President, saying, “That was said several times and it never came to pass and this one will never come to pass.”

When asked if Northerners were buying into the Tinubu candidacy, Masari said, “They’ve already bought into it. First of all, Bola is not a new name in politics of Nigeria and we, the people of Katsina, know the role played by Bola Tinubu in 2015 for the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari. We know the support he gave in 2019 for the continuation of Muhammadu Buhari. We, here in Katsina, are not ingrates.”

PDP Will Return 25 Governors In 2023, Says Ayu

0

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has told party loyalists and Nigerians that the party will return 25 or more governors during the 2023 general elections as it used to in the past.

Ayu was speaking after a closed-door meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from the 34 states across the country on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ayu, the governorship candidates met with some members of the National Working Committee to express their concerns in their various states on the efforts they were making to win elections in their states.

“The candidates came and express their concerns in their various states. Briefed us on the efforts they are making in their various states to win the elections

“We want to return about 25 state governors or more as we used to have. So the mood in the party is excellent.

“We are very determined that we don’t just win at the national level, states and national assemblies, and state governorship, we want to return about 25 state governors or more as we used to have. So the mood in the party is excellent.”

The meeting came amid leadership crisis in the party where pressure was been mounted on Ayu to step aside as one of the conditions for reconciliation, according to the camp of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Wike’s camp has been angered by the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, who overlooked the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as his running mate for the 2023 elections, nominating the Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa.

However, the national chairman of the party, reacted to those calling for his resignation, saying he was elected for a four-year tenure and would not resign till the end of his tenure.

MAIDAWAAREWA reported how Wike’s clique met with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the United Kingdom, on Tuesday, which raised more questions than answers.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, while speaking at the end of the meeting, stated that the governorship candidates were coming together to discuss the party’s issues.

“The candidates are coming together, uniting the party, and to discuss, even, the issues of reconciliation.”

North West Critical To APC’s Victory In 2023 – Dattijo

0

All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Alh Muhammad Sani Dattijo, has said the North West zone is critical to the party’s victory in 2023.

According to him, in 2015 the total votes cast for APC (President Buhari) was 46 %, while in 2019 the total votes cast dropped to 39%.

Dattijo, a former chief of staff at Government House, Kaduna, said this while speaking at the APC stakeholders Forum, Northwest zone conference held in Kaduna.

He explained that the repeat of the same victory for the party come 2023 means North West is critical to APC’s victory in 2023

“North West is responsible for APC success in the last election because North West is critical to APC victory. What we will do same in the coming coming elections,” he said.

In his remarks, the National President of Think Nigeria Group, Alh Nasiru Ladan, noted that the issue of region or religion should not be the yardstick to measure candidates but rather their track records.

He said once Nigeria gets it right, the country’s journey to greatness is assured.

Earlier, the National President of the APC stakeholders’ Forum, organizers of the conference, Abdullahi Aliyu Katsina, remarked that the conference was organised for party members in the zone not to relent in ensuring that APC remains the party to beat in next year’s election.

He expressed optimism about the party’s victory in 2023 and counseled every support group in the zone to work hard for the party to retain power.

Nigerians Will Rejoice – Kumuyi Prophesy

0

The General Overseer of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has declared that only God will determine the next president of the country, come 2023.

Also, the cleric noted that everything is in the hands of God concerning the change of power next year and that Nigerians will rejoice at the end of it.

Kumuyi made the declaration on Wednesday at the palace of Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, when he visited the monarch, Oba Victor Kiladejo.

The visit was part of the activities of the church to herald a six-day crusade tagged, ” Global Crusade with Kumuyi”, holding in the ancient town.

He said, “As to next year, 2023 about the election, everything is in the hands of God. I want to tell you, no pin drops anywhere in the world without God’s knowledge and nobody goes ahead without God’s control. He controls everything that happens in the world.

“Would there be an election next year? would there not be an election? Who will emerge as the president of our country? Who will come out as governor of each of the states? Known unto God before the beginning of time and what we want in answer to the problem of contentious people in our land. What He wants will come true. When a lion is coming, no rat stands in his way and says you can’t pass.

“When the Almighty says this is what it is, for Nigeria in particular, for 2023 in particular, no elephant of a man can stand in its way. God’s will will be done and we will all rejoice.”

Speaking on the programme, Kumuyi explained that the church chose Ondo the town for the crusade because God Himself chose the venue.

“At this time, we are choosing Ondo City because God has led us to do so. He, God choose Ondo for GCK,” he simply stated.

In his remarks, the Osemawe said the crusade would benefit the town and the state in general.

Earlier, the state Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, had hosted the pastor and his team in Akure, where he commended Kumuyi for his passion for preaching the gospel saying his visit to the state would usher in good tidings.

Akeredolu also lauded Pastor Kumuyi’s prowess as a former lecturer and accepted the invitation to be at the crusade with some of his cabinet members.

Buhari Won’t Betray APC – Presidency

0

The Presidency on Wednesday said that President Muhammadu Buhari will not indulge in any form of anti-party or betray candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2023 elections.

The Presidency also warned aggrieved members of the APC that dumped the party or those that are in court against its official candidates that they are on their own, adding that nobody outside the party tent should link what they are doing to President Buhari.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu titled, “For 2023, no Villa candidates, only APC candidates.”

The statement read: “The Presidency wishes to put it on record, and at the same time, reassure faithful party members that President Muhammadu Buhari remains a ‘disciplined soldier’ of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and will, in all the coming elections, support only those candidates fielded by the party and no other.

“This is a warning to decamped party members and some others who are still in court against official candidates of the APC that they are on their own and nobody outside the party tent should link what they are doing to President Buhari.

“The President wishes to be quoted as saying that he is the “occupant of the high office of the President by the Grace of God who used the instrumentality of the APC to bring him to power with a historic verdict in 2015.” In 2019, he was returned with a bigger majority.

“For the first time, a non-PDP government came to power with a huge majority after 16 years of the Fourth Republic. His constant refrain is: “I will not betray or undermine my party by supporting candidates other than those of the APC.”

This statement is not against any particular candidate. However, our stand is clear that only those candidates fielded by the All Progressives Candidates, APC will enjoy the support of the President and they are the ones he will campaign for. However, we welcome support for our candidates at all levels by other parties.

“The President says he will continue to support the party at all levels to enforce discipline, synchronization and coordination.

“He also directs officials in and around the Presidential Villa and all those engaging in loose talk to resist making controversial statements that eventually end up hurting the party and the government, thereby providing a weapon for the opposition to use against the administration, the party or its candidates in the coming elections.”

0

Alfe Inge Haaland is the father to Manchester City promising and talented young striker who himself has played for the club.

Haaland father was among the reasons the player considered the move to Manchester City from Borussia Dormund after being approached by many top European clubs.

Recall that when Erling Braut Haaland signed his Manchester City contract and was unveiled his dad made a Twitter post wishing his son good luck in his Stay at city and urging him to continue from where he stopped.

While playing for the club,  Alfe Inge made 45 EPL appearance scoring three goals before a career ending injury struck in, anyway it seems his legacy is in safe hands as his son has already equaled his goal tally for city in just four matches.

That is 41 EPL games lesser than his father but same goal tally, Haaland really have picked up from where his dad stopped.

Yobe Teaching Hospital To Start Kidney Transplant – Commissioner

0

The commissioner for health and human services, Mohammed Gana, says the Yobe University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), Damaturu, will soon begin kidney transplants.

Mr Gana told MAIDAWAAREWA that the hospital would conduct the operation in partnership with the Urology and Nephrology Centre, Mansoura University, Egypt.

He said the partnership would see doctors from the centre visiting YSUTH to conduct kidney transplantation and YSUTH doctors receiving advanced training in nephrology at the centre in Egypt.

“The ultimate management of renal impairment is kidney transplantation, and we know how expensive it is and difficult to access. This is why Governor Mai Mala Buni decided to provide kidney transplanting equipment to YSUTH since the hospital has the manpower to use them with good training,” said the commissioner. “All these are aimed at bringing down the cost of renal treatment and bringing succour to our people.”

According to him, dialysis is free at the hospital, with new dialysis units soon to be established in Gashua and Nguru.

“Kidney disease is prevalent in Yobe, especially in the northern parts of the state. The research will be collaborative because this disease is also present in some parts of Jigawa,” the health commissioner explained. “We will work together in identifying the cause and addressing the disease.”

Mr Gana added that findings had shown that the disease had links with chemical fertilisers and water supply.

“If it is water supply, we will liaise with the ministry of water resources for interventions,” Mr Gana said.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the research would unravel the mystery behind the upsurge in cases of renal disease in Yobe.
