Nigerians Must Vote Tinubu, Says APC National Secretary Omisore

44

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Iyiola Omisore, on Monday, said there is no alternative to the ruling party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu.

Omisore made this assertion when speaking with newsmen after he had a meeting with some leaders of the party at the APC secretariat in Lagos.

The APC scribe, who left before the conclusion of the meeting, urged members of the party and people in the South-West zone to rise up and work together to ensure the emergence of Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria.

“We have to vote Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC in all elections. He is the only choice we have and that is the best we can have at this point in time.

“There is no alternative to him. How do you compare them? From where to where,” Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun said.

He urged the people of the South-West and Nigerians to avoid deceptions, stressing “these are deceits and we must move away from deception”.

The APC leader said that the meeting was informed by the need to strategise ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“Election is very near and luckily for us, the presidential candidate for the party (APC) is from the South-West.

“We are working ahead of time to be proactive and to sensitise our people on the need to vote our candidate.

“Luckily for us, for the first time in recent years, we have a candidate coming from Lagos state.

“We have reasons to be voted for. We have landmass which we can point at. We are just looking as a party to strategise and plan ahead of our elections,’’ he said.

Omisore said that the party intends to showcase the achievements and capacity of Tinubu in the last 20 years and would do its best to sell its candidate and correct some of the wrong and erroneous narratives outside.

The APC national secretary said that Tinubu had done a lot to move Lagos state forward on all fronts and deserved to be elected president of Nigeria.

IPOB Rejects Peter Obi Igbo Presidency, Says Nigeria Is Irredeemable

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has rejected the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Igbo presidency.

IPOB said it’s neither interested in an Igbo President nor a Nigerian President of Southeast extraction.

The group said its members are not part of Obi’s supporters because they are interested in Nigeria’s disintegration.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of the separatist group, said Nigeria was irredeemable.

In a statement he signed, Powerful said: “The Igbo people rallying behind Peter Obi are not IPOB members because IPOB’s goal is the disintegration of the Nigerian enterprise irrespective of whether Peter Obi or anyone else from the Biafran geographic space is contesting in the Nigerian farce of an election.

“IPOB is a freedom fighting movement and has nothing whatsoever to do with or in Nigerian politics. So long as we in IPOB are concerned, Nigeria is irredeemable.”

IPOB also reiterated its call for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and a referendum in the Southeast.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Allied Institutions have suspended strike.

MAIDAWAAREWA reports that the unions went on strike in March, few weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) down tools.

In a chat with our correspondent on Saturday, President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, said the strike had been suspended for two months.

He said the unions took the action to give room for the federal government to implement all the agreements reached.

”We have only suspended the strike for 60 days. This is just to open a window for the federal government to fulfill all its agreements with us. We will resume the strike after 60 days if the government fails on its promises,” Comrade Ibrahim told Daily Trust.

He said the suspension of the strike will take effect on Wednesday, August 24.

Before the strike, the unions had written the office of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, to accuse the government of insincerity in its implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Action (MoA) reached with the government in October 2020 and February 2021 respectively.

In the letter by jointly signed by SSANU president and NASU general secretary, Peters Adeyemi, the unions threatened a two-week warning strike if the government failed to act.

“In view of the nonchalant attitude of the government to our demands, this is to direct our members in all universities and inter-university centres throughout the country to commence a two-week strike by midnight of Sunday, 27 March, 2022, in the first instance as earlier conveyed to the federal government in our letter.

“Please note that the two-week warning strike should be comprehensive and total as no concession should be given under any guise.

“Your strict compliance and adherence to this directive is mandatory for all branches of NASU and SSANU in the universities and inter-university centres,” the letter read.

We’ll Soon Unveil Big Men Behind Oil Theft – Garba Shehu

0

Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has stated that the federal government will soon publish the names of significant individuals responsible for oil theft in the nation.

Shehu claimed that security personnel had stormed places where illegal oil bunkering thrives in an effort to free the nation’s economy from the sabotage of a selfish minority.

Shehu intimated that there might be instances of some law enforcement officers engaging in the unlawful activity when speaking on Trust TV’s Politics Today, but he added that additional measures were being taken to stop it.

“Oil theft is being tackled. The big problem we have in this country is that we ought to see more commitment from communities in assisting law enforcement agents. In some cases, where some actors in the law enforcement are complicit, it becomes bad,” he said.

He added that it was embarrassing for Nigeria not to meet up with the quota given to it by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

“We used to fight the OPEC for more quotas; now, they have given us and we are not able to meet up. This is embarrassing. Security agencies are fully involved in stopping this act. I am hopeful that in the next few days, the office of the National Security Adviser will be presenting to the country, big men who are promoters of this kind of business as they are being caught and illegal refineries are being bombed out.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is also installing a monitoring capacity to detect or advice immediately when sabotage of oil pipelines happen,” he said.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Thursday, during the deadlocked federal government and ASUU meeting, said workers would lose their salaries for the period they were on strike. But reacting in an interview with Daily Trust Saturday, ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said the lecturers would not process the outstanding two sets of students now waiting for admission in the universities if their arrears were not paid after the strike. However, some lawyers who reacted to the federal government’s comment, said the no-work-no-pay comment was a valid rule and is contained in the Trade Union Act, 2005. Section 43(1) (a) reads: “Where any worker takes part in a strike, he shall not be entitled to any wage or other remunerations for the period of the strike, and any such period shall not count for the purpose of reckoning the period of continuous employment, and all rights dependent on the continuity of employment shall be prejudicially affected accordingly.” Yusuf Buhari, a lawyer, said that even if there was no such law, in every employment, there must be an agreement that spells out the terms. “If you are going on strike, there must be a corresponding right to withhold your salaries. Such agreements are legal and binding in law,” he said. Also, Hamid Ajibola Jimoh submitted that the provision of section 43(1)(a) and (b) of the Trade Union Act does not criminalise strike but establishes that the striking workers would not be entitled to pay. Similarly, E.M.D. Umukoro said the Trade Union Act remained the enabling law until “it is repealed or struck down by the courts.” Obi Group Hails Ozigbo, Woos Other politicians Photo Credit: Punch Newspapers The Peter Obi Support Network has hailed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, for joining “Obidient Movement”, describing the development as long overdue. Jones said the group was not surprised by the move. He urged other patriots to take a cue from Ozigbo and join the “Obidient” campaign in order to steer the country away from imminent disaster. The statement read, “He is a patriotic Nigerian who is passionate about building a working, progressive and a united nation, and it is not in any way a surprise that he has made his declaration to join the most popular and most promising people’s movement in the history of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic politics. “We have always known that his heart has been with this movement and we welcome him with joy and assure him of our absolute cooperation in ensuring that this movement is piloted to success for the benefit of all Nigerians. “This is not the time to sit on the fence, this is a time for every true Nigerian and lover of progress to take a stand with the people and participate actively in salvaging the fate of our dear nation. “Like Chief Valentine Ozigbo, many other Nigerian patriots have put Nigeria’s interest above their personal political and pecuniary interests, by aligning with the best presidential candidate in this election, and it is our hope as an organisation that more political leaders and statesmen will break off the shackles of partisanship and join in the mission to save our nation.” Gunmen Attack Oyetola’s Wife Convoy, Security Personnel Injured Photo Credit: P.M.
