Bandits Abduct Scores, Set Houses Ablaze In Jos communities

Bandits on Sunday attacked villages in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, setting houses on fire after abducting several others.

The attacked communities are Kukawa, Gyanbahu, Dungur and Keram villages, several people were killed in those communities while several properties were also burnt.

Mr Adam Musalawa, a resident of Kukawa village, said that many people were also injured in the attack.

According to him, several residents have fled their homes, he said that security operatives were unavailable during the attack, thereby giving the bandits free time to operate.

The spokesperson of the state police command, ASP Ubah Gabriel, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to him.

Military Promise To Restore Peace In Southern Kaduna

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen. Lucky Irabor, said the Nigerian armed forces would restore peace in the Southern part of Kaduna State, he gave the assurance at a peace meeting with stakeholders in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of the state, insisted that days of the criminal elements in the state are numbered.

He said: “We are committed to ensuring that peace is restored in this part of the country, for those who do not want to heed our appeal for peace and who think that violence is what they need to unleash on us, I am here to tell them that their days are numbered.

“If the peace in Southern Kaduna is disrupted, the peace in Kaduna and indeed the peace in Nigeria will be disrupted because Kaduna is central to the existence of Nigeria.”

He also promised to increase the military strength in Southern Kaduna.

“You can have all the personnel and equipment in the world, if there’s no willingness amongst the people to live in peace, it will count for nothing.

So, we need to start looking at ways beyond military deployment to solve this crisis.

“This is not something I have authority to make a decision on, but I can assure you I will bring it up as a point during the National Security Council meeting for further consideration,” Irabor added.

Troops Recover 12.1m Litres Of Stolen Oil In Niger Delta

Nigerian troops of Operation Delta Safe have recovered 12.1 million litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 4,000 liters of stolen crude oil between March 25 and April 7, 2022 in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states, this was revealed by the Director of the Nigerian Army defence media operations, Bernard Onyeuko.

He said that the troops bursted and destroyed 30 illegal refining sites with 37 reservoirs, 31 ovens, 12 large wooden boats, two cooling systems, three receivers, three storage pits and metal drums, the troops also recovered three tankers, three vehicles, 73 galvanized pipes, two motorcycles, one bus, one Toyota Camry and a Mercedes Benz car.

Onyeuko said the troops arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities two suspects associated with vandalism and stealing of high-tension cables, he added that the Nigerian Navy had recorded a milestone in indigenous systematic survey and charting of the nation’s offshore waters, further explained that the troops have continued to dominate the oil-rich zone and conducted anti-crude oil theft and anti-illegal oil bunkering related operations at different locations in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa States.

He further revealed that a special operation tagged “Operation Dakatar Da Barawo,” aimed at curbing crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta area, kicked off at Onne Port in Port Harcourt on April 1.

IGP Appoints New Commissioners Of Police In 4 States

Usman Alkali Baba, the Nigerian Inspector General of Police has ordered the posting of four new Commissioners of Police in four states.

The acting Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP ordered the posting of CP Abutu Yaro, CP Sikiru Akande Kayode, CP Yekini Adio Ayoku and CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde to head the Edo, Adamawa, Kaduna, and Imo State Police Commands respectively.

Below are the profiles of the new Commissioners of Police:
CP Abutu Yaro, the new Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, holds a B.A [Hons] from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He was appointed to the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988. He has served in various supervisory capacities within the Nigeria Police Force, including as Commissioner of Police in charge of Zamfara and Imo State Police Commands respectively. Until his recent appointment, he was CP Force Provost Marshal, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The new Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Police Command, Sikiru Akande Kayode holds a B.Sc in Political Science from University of Benin.

He joined the service of the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1990 and has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities within the Force. He has served as the Officer-in-Charge of Presidential/VIP Movement, State House Abuja.

He was equally a one-time Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Police Command. Until his appointment, he was CP ICT, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

CP Yekini Adio Ayoku holds a B.Sc from the University of Ilorin. He is an indigene of Agbeyangi, Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State.

CP Ayoku enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in March 1990. He has served in several capacities in the Nigeria Police with a great wealth of experience.

He was a one-time Commanding Officer, 24 PMF Squadron, Presidential Guard and Escort. He has participated in peacekeeping operations and was decorated with the United Nations Medal for meritorious service in Kosovo. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police [IACP].

CP Muhammed Ahmed Barde, the new Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command, is a versatile Police Officer.

He has served in Police College, Jos and Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano as DC Admin. He equally served in Borno State Police Command as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

He was one time head of Force CID, Annex, Enugu. Until his recent appointment, he was the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Police Command.

IGP Baba, has urged the newly posted officers to hit the ground running in the areas of crime-fighting and public safety. He also called for support and cooperation from members of the public to the new Police helmsmen to enable them perform optimally on their mandate.

High Profile Terrorist Commander Surrenders —DHQ

The Defence Headquarters says a notable commander of Boko Haram terrorists, Saleh Mustapha, has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in the North East as 51,114 terrorists have so far surrendered.

Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, Director, Defence Media Operations, said this while speaking on the achievements of military operations between March 25 and April 7 on Thursday in Abuja.

Onyeuko said the surrender of Mustapha popularly known as Inn Kathir, who was the Qaid of Garin Ba-Abba, to troops in Bama was significant, he said that a total number of 51,114 terrorists and families comprising of 11,398 men, 15,381 women, 24,335 children had surrendered to troops.

In the last two weeks, troops seized one battle tank, five artillery guns, two GTS and three AA guns.

Others are: one Mine Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, three gun trucks, One MOWAG Armored Personnel Carrier and two RPG tubes.

“Other items recovered include three RPG rockets, three RPG bombs, one NSVT gun, two GPMG, one light MG, one PKM, three GPMG belts and four belts of PKT rounds.

“Also recovered are 600 7.62mm NATO rounds, 16 AK 47 rifles, one dane gun, 270 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one Toyota Buffalo vehicle, one Golf saloon car, four motorcycles, six magazines, two pairs of camouflage, two terrorists flags, one tricycle and one active drone,” he said.

Onyeuko said the troops also killed scores of terrorists while 22 terrorist spies, 11 terrorists and three logistics suppliers were arrested with 30 civilians rescued during the operation.

He said the air component conducted air interdictions which took out heavy stockpile of ISWAP weapons in their depots between March 28 and March 31 at Bukar Meiram and 2km South of Kollaram.

“The land component with the support of the air component conducted offensive operations at different locations of the theatre such as Ukuba/Camp Zairo, Sabil Huda, Ba Masaa, Wulgo, Marta,fulatari village, Uraha Crossing Point, Mbalala, Gamboru town all in Borno.

“Notably, among the exploits of our troops was the capture of the terrorists’ stronghold by Ukba/Camp Zairo in the Sambisa Forest where some artillery guns, armored personnel carriers, trailers and large cache of arms and ammunition were captured.

Troops also destroyed terrorist hideout, captured some terrorists, destroyed terrorists improvised explosive making factory.

Hisbah Seizes 1,426 Bottles Of Alcoholic Beverages In Jigawa

Hisbah Board in Jigawa has seized 1,426 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages in two local government areas of the state.

Ibrahim Dahiru, the Hisbah Commander revealed this in Dutse, the state capital on Thursday, he said the command also seized a 25-litre jerrican of local beer, popularly called “burukutu”.

The commander added that 15 suspects, including a woman, were arrested, according to him, 177 bottles of alcoholic beverages, 25 litres of burukutu and 14 suspects were arrested on April 3, in Gumel local government area.

He said, “The Hisbah raided three beer parlours in Gumel LGA namely Awala Hotel, located on Gujungu road; Sabuwar Sahara, located behind the LG Secretariat; and Gidan Mama Mai Burkutu.

In these raids, we were able to arrest 14 persons, including a woman who sells burukutu.

“In these raids also, we were able to seize 177 bottles of beer and 25 litres of burukutu,” he added.

Dahiru further stated that 1,249 bottles of assorted beer and 143 empty cartons were confiscated when the Hisbah raided a beer parlour in Takur Aduwa area of Dutse on March 4.

“On March 4, Hisbah personnel raided Bone beer parlour in Takur Aduwa in Dutse local government area.

“During this raid, we confiscated 1,249 bottles of beer, 143 empty cartons, a car with registration number MG 194 XA,” Dahiru noted, saying one person suspected to be the owner of the beer was also arrested.

The commander, urged residents to be law abiding, said all the items and suspects were handed over to the police for further investigations.

He further said that consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited across the state.

He, however, commended residents for their support and cooperation with the board, assuring that the command would continue to fight against immoral acts and social vices in all parts of the state.

Kogi Not Owing Worker’s Salary —Gov Yahaya Bello

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello says no state government worker is being owed salary under his administration, challenging anyone being owed to come out openly with a proof.

Bello urged Nigerians to judge him by his projects and performance in the state and not on lies spread by individuals, he said that if the allegations were true, the state government workers and unions would have protested.

The Governor told Nigerians to visit the state government’s websites; www.kogipedia.net and www.kogistate.gov.ng to see some of the projects undertaken by his administration and clarity on workers’ salaries

“First, let me implore the media to please come up with one state civil servant who would come on air and present his pay slip and bank statement and claim that Kogi State is owing him.

“Number two, these various workers have their unions and organisations. The Union leaderships and not making noise, who are those that are complaining.

“When you continue to mention this issue of salary, I want you to take statistics, empirical facts of various states up till date, how many states have performed above Kogi State in terms of salary payment,” he said.

“And, I want to assure you that if we are not paying salaries, workers themselves, their unions, would have cried out, there are so many lies they are banding out there that you do not know how they emanate.

“Let me tell you, I am not a governor for salary, any other person can pay salaries, just like the clerical workers and all of my officials are paying.

Gov Zulum Increases Wages Of Casual Workers

Borno state government has raised the monthly salary of casual workers from N10,000 to N30,000.

Governor Babagana Zulum said their total wage bill will now stand at one hundred and two million instead of thirty-five million naira, the two hundred percent salary Increment was announced by the governor in Maiduguri.

He said the increase in salaries was because of their hard work and also keeping the environment clean.
“As the Ramadan fast commences; each of you is to get a bag of rice and 10kg of sugar,” he said.

Zulum urged them to pray for peace in the state and the country, he prayed that the Boko Haram insurgency does not reoccur in the northeast and parts of northern Nigeria.

The workers were provided with two kilogrammes of meat and five litres of cooking oil, including other food and non-food items distributed for Ramadan.

The 285 casual workers are drawn from the Government House Maiduguri, Borno State Environment Protection Agency (BOSEPA), and Confer Cleaning and Hygiene services.
