United long trophy drought continues following their defeat in the UCL

0

Manchester United are out of the Champions League after a 1-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid, which saw them exit the competition on a 2-1 aggregate.

Renan Lodi’s first-half header was enough to the Spanish side into the quarter-finals as Ralf Rangnick’s team endured a frustrating game at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils who are already out of the FA Cup, the defeat means that United’s slim hopes of ending their long trophy drought this season comes to an end.

Manchester United’s next engagement is on April 2 when they host Leicester City, while Atletico Madrid will travel to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

Without NEPA Ramadan in April, the hottest month, in Maiduguri

0

One of the hottest and most overstretched places in Nigeria, the biggest IDP host community.

How does Yola Electricity Distribution Company make money? After more than a year a year of being off the national grid in Maiduguri, we’re still without power even though we’re back on the grid.

Of course they have their reasons, logical too, just like the devil had his reasons for disobeying God, logical reasons.

Local power distribution infrastructure is broken down. For one year they abandoned the transformers, power lines and other stuff, to the elements and criminal activity, they didn’t fix this in anticipation of the national grid coming back on, in three months they’ve failed to fix it.

How are they making money? Are they still enjoying the perks of owning an essential national asset? Are they being compensated by government for the loss in revenue due to insecurity? The law protects their business from competition. Where is society’s due?

What are the local government chairpersons doing? Where is the state house of assembly? How about the state executive? National assembly members, reps and senators? Is government still paying for their electricity?

If somehow NNPC’s officially sanctioned rumour of a power plant becomes operational, or by some stroke of luck the laws are amended to allow private power generation, and for example Alhaji Indimi takes it up, how will electricity be distributed?

Of course they will have answers to explain why we don’t have power to buy. Fire should not bow down to clay, according to the devil.
I suppose the current arrangement suits them just fine. They’re making money.

So help them God. And the common man too.

Buhari’s Stand On APC National Convention Encouraging, Says Stakeholders

0

Stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have described the recent statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that the national convention of the party slated for March 26 will go ahead as planned as reassuring.

The stakeholders believed that the President has agreed with millions of party members on the need for the convention of the party to hold on March 26, regardless of the discovery made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governor of Niger State and also the acting Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Abubakar Bello last week wrote and signed a letter sent to the INEC.

Bello and Mamman signed the letter, which was to serve as a notice to the commission on APC’s decision to hold an emergency NEC meeting.

But INEC, had while responding, in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs Rose Omoa Oriaran-Anthony and dated March 9, 2022, said the party must give it 21 days notice and that the letter wasn’t signed by the Caretaker Chairman, Mai Mala Buni and the Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.

It said: “The Commission draws your attention to the fact that the notice for the meeting was not signed by the National Chairman (Buni) and National Secretary (Akpanudoedehe) of the CECPC, contrary to the provision of the Article 1.1.3 of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Party Operations (2018).

Furthermore, the APC is reminded of the provision in Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires ‘at least 21 days’ notice of any convention, congress, conference or meeting convened for the purpose of “merger” and electing members of executive committees, other governing bodies or nominating candidates for any elective offices”.

However, a chairmanship aspirant, Mallam Saliu Mustapha said the President’s call for peace among feuding party members ahead of the March 26 National Convention was one that resonates with him.

Mustapha said Buhari’s statement was a proof that he was keen on making the party stronger than ever.

On his part, Mr. Dagogo Fubara, who is also contesting for the position of National Youth Leader of the party, said while he believed the President was in charge, the observation made by the INEC was very important.

He said “I believe that in as much as the INEC has raised an issue, the legal team surrounding the President will give him the best advice as regards to the position that the President has taken.”

Fubara said there was the need for the party to take a look at the complaints by the INEC in order to ensure that the opposition party does not consolidate on the loopholes to fight the party.

He added: “I believe that the President is in charge but we should also consider the complaints of INEC so that we can be on the right footing, because if we don’t put that into consideration, it will affect the party, just the way it affected the case of Zamfara and Rivers States.”

Another party member, Mr. Tosin Adeyanju said the President’s statement further taught party members and stakeholders to put party first before any personal interest.

He added that the Caretaker Committee was working towards March 26, stressing that party members must give them necessary support to make that date a reality.

Adeyanju added: “We must have a party first before the contending forces can contest elections. Therefore, it is a welcome development.

I think it is a clear message that everyone should calm down and work towards the March 26th convention. Mr. President is on the same page with millions of party members on the need to have our elections on that date.”

However, efforts to get the National Commissioner of INEC on Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Festus Okoye proved abortive.

Arewa Elders Accepts Matawalle’s security Plan On Insecurity

0

The Arewa Elders Initiative and Interactive Forum has accepted the security Plan designed by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State to confront the danger of saboteur.

Governor Matawalle noted that the activities of the saboteurs have been retarding the fight against insurgency and other criminal acts in the north west zone of the country.

Mr. Alhassan Gwadabe, the group’s national chairman, after a two-day interactive session with some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Kaduna tagged, ‘Emerging challenges facing the north west and Issues behind the success of the fight against banditry and kidnapping ahead of 2023 Elections’.

He explained that the new pattern designed by Governor Matawalle, including arrest of informants, telecommunication networks shutdown, ban on the sale of petrol and exposing collaborators in communities, demolishing their structures and removal of community leaders accused of connivance and negligence were positively restoring peace to the region.

The elders of the forum call on President Muhammadu Buhari, service chiefs and Governors of the zone to bring forth new methods and tactics that could guarantee huge success in the current fight against banditry in the region, especially with the recent reports of the escalation of banditry and killing of innocent people in parts of Niger and Kebbi states.

The group unanimously agreed that the greatest challenge in the fight against bandits, now declared as terrorists, is to apply the non-kinetic methods introduced by Matawalle by arresting informants, using the traditional and political solutions and supporting vigilante groups.

Police Officers Yet To Get Salary Increment — IGP

0

Usman Baba Alkali, the Nigerian Inspector-General of Police (IGP), on Monday said stakeholders engaged in the process of salary addition for officer’s are still working on the new salary prepared for them by the federal government, and are willing to make it real.

IGP Baba said that the salary increment was the President’s idea, emphasizing that the police didn’t request for it, he also said the officers knows that it is rebellious to interrupt any plan of law enforcement services without putting it into practice.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, make it known last year that the new salary for police officers would start by January 2022, but the implementation is yet to be achieved after three months.

Officers of the Force were said to have plan to embark on a protest by March 26 so that their salaries and allowances would be increased but the police chief stated that no police officer would protest salary increment because they know the effects of protest.

The IGP, in a statement signed on his behalf by the Acting Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, dismissed the report, saying it was an “attempt by unscrupulous individuals to bring the Force to disrepute, misinform the general public and heat up the polity.”

He said, “Since that approval, the Salaries and Wages Commission has issued an implementation circular, the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs and the IGP have been working with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to ensure the stoppage of tax deductions as directed by the President and approved by the Federal Executive Council.”

According to him, the Nigeria Police Force is a regimented and disciplined organization with laid down rules and guidelines for addressing grievances and in no circumstance is a strike action one of such means.

The police boss added, “It is pertinent to emphasize that the IGP is accelerating efforts to ensure the full implementation of the increment of salaries and allowances proposed by the President and approved by the Federal Executive Council.

It is important to accentuate that it was the President’s initiative without any demand from the police to direct the process of increasing salaries and allowances. The Federal Government is therefore fully committed to the implementation of the new salary package.”

0

A lady identified as wife of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari, on Monday, fainted at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The woman slumped and fell on the floor while men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency were leading Kyari and others away from the court premises.

The development followed the deferment of ruling on Kyari’s bail application by the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite.

The judge deferred ruling on applications filed by Kyari, alongside six other persons facing drug trafficking charges, that they be released on bail pending the determination of the case against them.

It was gathered that eight charges were filed against Abba Kyari, and six others over their involvement in alleged drug trafficking.

Kyari was arraigned on eight counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction, dealing in cocaine, and other related offences.
The other defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, are four members of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Sunday J. Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu.

Osinbajo Informs Buhari Of Presidential Ambition

0

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition.

Osinbajo told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023.

With the intent, which has not been made public, the vice president will fight for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had a few months ago informed Buhari of his intention to also contest for President in 2023.

Osinbajo served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State between 1999 and 2007 when Tinubu was the governor.

There are reports that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele and the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi are also interested in joining the race.

Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige had also expressed interest in joining the race.

Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzo Kalu, and Senator Rochas Okorocha have all declared their interest in the presidency on the platform of the APC amid speculations that some aspirants from the North would soon join the race.

Certainly, VP Osinbajo has told the president that he wants to succeed him,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.

The vice president had first consulted some prominent Nigerians who encouraged him to vie for the presidency and they also encouraged him to tell the president himself.

They told him not to allow a third party to tell the president so that the ambition will not be misconstrued.”

Another source said when Osinbajo approached the president with the story, Buhari was not surprised.

Buhari smiled in his usual characteristic manner…he listened to the VP carefully and while responding, he gave him the green light and wished him well without giving him any commitment or assurance of supporting him ahead of other contenders.

He blessed the intention just the way he blessed Tinubu when he visited him in the Villa and unveiled his plan to vie for the presidency.

And I think the president is being careful. Remember what he said while granting an interview to national television,” the source was quoted as saying.

Though Osinbajo has yet to openly declare his intention to run for President in 2023, many support groups and individuals, believed to be sponsored, have been rooting for him.

Some of them have been campaigning for Osinbajo, urging him to contest.

I Will Declare Presidential Ambition Before End Of March, Says Saraki

0

The former Kwara governor said he has been touring the country with his team to consult stakeholders on his presidential ambition.

According to him, he will declare his intention to run for president in 2023 after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decides which geopolitical zone will get its presidential ticket.
Like anybody, there are rules; there are guidelines,” he said.

We will have a NEC (PDP) meeting on Tuesday. Hopefully, the guidelines will come out which will tell us definitely where the whistle would be blown.

Short of anything that stops an individual, I will definitely be announcing sometime before the end of the month, my intention to vie for president. At the moment, we are just doing consultation. Formal declaration will come in due course.”

I believe I have what it takes to lead Nigeria. I am not someone who shies away from taking up challenges. I am not someone who does not know the issues or someone who does not have the energy and vibrancy to address those issues.

More importantly, I am someone that can reach out across the political divide, based on my antecedents. I am someone who can reach out across the ethnicity divide and across the religious divide ”

Asked about the issue of zoning which has been a subject of debate, Saraki said Nigerians should be concerned about electing someone who can tackle the country’s challenges.

When you talk about zoning, yes, you must consider zoning. But when we talk about zoning, it can’t just be an issue of north/south because you cannot tell me that the south-west will say they are disenfranchised in the possibility of political office; neither can you say the south-south,” he said.

But the reality is that the north-east, north-central and south-east have not had presidency or vice-presidency. But what I’m saying is today, where the country is, with the challenges before the country, we must bring in other issues.

We did it when we wanted to look for the national chairman of our party. We went seeking for who we felt was the best that would help the party.

There are people who can provide solutions to the problems of the country if you give them the opportunity.”

Buhari’s Administration Most Corrupt, Rudderless Says PDP

0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration as a perfect example of arrogance in failure.

The PDP asserted that Buhari presided over the most rudderless, corrupt, disunited, disorganized, arrogant political party and government in the history of the country; a fact that is already established by Nigerians across board.

The party was reacting to Buhari’s warning to APC to take a example from PDP which fell as a result of disunity.

According to him, “Look at the once-powerful, main opposition Peoples Democratic Party now enfeebled and adrift and learn lessons in disunity, mismanagement and corruption. They failed in 16 years in power and a failure as opposition.”

PDP, in a statement issued by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, said the Buhari administration is a certified failure which has brought unprecedented economic hardship, chaos, escalated insecurity, a state of anomie and hopelessness in our country in the last six years.

The party said: “If Mr. President were ‘present’ as President and party leader, he should have known that the party that is “enfeebled and adrift”, plagued by ‘disunity, mismanagement and corruption”; “arrogance of power” and “self-aggrandizement” which he alluded to, is not the PDP but the evidently mismanaged and mutating crisis ridden APC.

It is important to educate Mr. President on the arrogance of power in his refusal to timeously appoint an economic team or listen to wise counsel on the economy and security. This is why he completely mismanaged our national affairs and turned our nation into the poverty capital of the world and the third country with the highest level of terrorism according to the World Terrorism Index.

Such arrogance of power is manifesting in President Buhari and APC’s refusal to accept failure for the near collapse of our economy.

In addition to this, the price of diesel which is a critical component in the productive sector of the economy now stands at inconceivable N700 per liter under the APC.

Is it not arrogance of power that informed the Buhari-led APC administration to import contaminated fuel, induce agonizing fuel scarcity on our citizens and yet had the effrontery to tell Nigerians that “heaven will not fall” over the fuel situation?”

It added that the same arrogance of power accounted for the repeated refusal by the APC administration to obey Court Orders, “for President Buhari’s repeated refusal to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill until he was pressured by the PDP and Nigerians as well as his constant disdain toward the people in repeatedly refusing to address the nation on critical issues, notably during the October 2020 EndSARS protest and the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The arrogance and impunity of the APC administration also accounted for its refusal to prosecute APC leaders indicted for corruption; the barefaced denial that no one was killed in the EndSARS protest despite national and international evidence of bloody massacre of our youths at the Lekki Tollgate as well as the failure to account for the billions of naira Covid-19 Funds stolen by APC leaders.

This is in addition to the recent arrogant, corrupt and criminal removal of electricity subsidy without reference to Nigerians among other thoughtless and inhumane actions of the APC government.

Moreover, it is ludicrous that Mr. President who confirmed that the APC as a party of irreconcilable political warlords, is bedeviled by “the infighting we are seeing” instead of the expected “robust debate on the issues that matter”, is looking elsewhere for a lesson in “disunity, mismanagement and corruption”.

Mr. President has so arrogantly mismanaged the APC that it is now plagued by two illegal national chairmen, multiple structures in States; enfeebled to the extent that it cannot conduct a valid National Convention or produce legitimate candidates for elections, with its activities no longer recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”
