Hakim Ziyech Announces retirement from international football

0

Hakim Ziyech has decided to put an end to all the drama with the Morocco national football team, by announcing his retirement from international duty.

The 28-year-old had represented the country of his ancestry rather than his birth 40 times since choosing them over the Netherlands in 2015.

His decision followed the refusal of the Moroccan national team to invite him for the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Morocco head coach, Vahid Halilhodžić, had accused the midfielder of faking an injury to get out of playing in a friendly game for his country.

Ziyech has not played for Morocco since June and has now made himself unavailable for the future.

The midfielder has travelled with Chelsea for their Club World Cup competition in Abu Dhabi.

“Yes, it’s my final decision,” the player added when asked if he would change his mind along the line.

“It’s all clear for me and I’m focusing on what I’m doing and right now that’s my club,” he said.

Obviously, I understand them but I will not return to the national team,” Ziyech told Abu Dhabi Sports on Tuesday.

Ziyech is in fine form for the Blues and scored a stunner in Chelsea’s last Premier League game against Tottenham before the break

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, had praised the Moroccan after the Premier League win over Tottenham.

INSECURITY: Act On Gov Zulum’s Alarm Now Before It’s Too Late – Ortom To FG

0

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Benue State Governor has pleaded with Federal Government to take the alarm raised by professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Borno State Governor, on the recruitment of more fighters by the Islamic State of West Africa Province, (ISWAP) seriously.

Gov. Ortom also urge the federal government (FG) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to come up with a  security strategies that will ensure the return of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs to their ancestral homes without delay to continue with their normal life activities.

Gov Ortom said, “I want to lend my voice to what my colleague in Borno State, Prof Babagana Zulum has cried out against the activities of ISWAP in that part of the country. The Federal Government should not take this alarm from the threats of ISWAP lightly.”

The governor also call on the Federal Government to “take proactive steps to send away terrorists from Nigeria so that we can live in peace. We cannot continue this way. Nigeria deserves more peace than what we have now.”

Governor Ortom spoke on Tuesday at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi when he received a delegation from the Victim Support Fund, VSF, led by its Chairperson, Mrs Toyosi Akerele Ogunsij. The VSF was also led by a former Chief of Army Staff, retired General Theophilus Danjuma.

The Gov. also said he regretted that immediately he came in as Governor of Benue State in 2015, he foresaw the danger of allowing the activities of Fulani militia herdsmen to fester for long without a permanent solution, the result of which, he said, “we are seeing today.”

Ortom also noted that “the strategic support we want now is to enable our people living in IDP camps to return to their ancestral lands. Our people want to go back to their communities so that they can live their normal lives.”

Ortom said his idea of conducting a mass burial for victims of the January 1st, 2018 killings by militia herdsmen was to draw attention to the security situation in the country, saying leaders at all levels need to speak out against the insecurity in the country.

Gov Ortom commended the VSF under the leadership of retired General TY Danjuma for intervening in some critical areas in the plight of the IDPs in Benue, describing the elder statesman as forthright and outspoken on national issues.

Governor Ortom called on VSF to intensify support in the areas of improved healthcare services to IDPs, upscale its educational activities from primary to secondary education in the camps, support NGOs to continue to render help to the IDPs among others.

Mrs Ogunsiji said they were in the state to get details from the Governor on critical areas VSF should intervene on both short and long term basis, so the organization does not just throw money at the problems confronting the IDPs.

Mrs Ogunsiji also said the visit followed a request by Governor Ortom to the VSF for support to the IDPs, stressing that a visit to the camps has revealed to the team the unhealthy nature of the environment inhabited by the IDPs.
