Affected communities include were Kauran Fawa, Marke and Riheya villages in Idasu district of the local government area, with houses, trucks and cars also burnt along with farm produce at various farms.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan confirmed this in a statement Sunday in Kaduna.

Bandits had recently, also killed innocent citizens in Zangon Kataf, Chikun, Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Kauru local government areas of the state.

Announcing the latest killings, Aruwan said:  “The military and police authorities have confirmed to the Kaduna state government that 38 people were killed across the locations attacked. Twenty nine of the victims have been identified, with nine remaining unidentified as of the time of this update.

“The 29 identified are listed as: Rabi`u Wada, Salisu Boka, Alhaji Nura Nuhu, Alhaji Bashari Sabiu, Alhaji Lawal Dahiru, Abbas Saidu, Inusa Kano, Malam Lawal Nagargari, Malam Aminu, Lawal Maigyad, Alhaji Mustapha, Lawal Aliyu, Sale Makeri, Sani Lawal, Auwal Umar, Jamilu Hassan and Badamasi Mukhtar,” the statement said.

He listed others to include “Malam Jibril, Lawal Tsawa, Sule Hamisu, Sadi Bala, Kabiru Gesha, Abubakar Sanusi, Saiph Alhaji Abdu, Haruna Musa, Lawal Hudu, Malam Shuaibu Habibu, Malam Yahaya Habibu, Abubakar Yusuf.

“Houses, trucks, and cars were also burnt, along with agricultural produce at various farms.

“Governor Nasir el-Rufai received the reports with sadness, sent condolences to the families of the victims of the brutal attacks while praying for the repose of their souls.

“The governor also commiserated with the affected communities and directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency to conduct an urgent assessment of the area towards providing relief. Security agencies have sustained patrols in the general area,” the statement further added.

Buhari condemns killings

In a reaction, President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the renewed killings in Kaduna state, describing it as sad and unacceptable.

He expressed the nation’s condolences to the Government of Kaduna state, the people of Zonkwa Chiefdom and the family of His Highness Nuhu Bature, the Agwam Kajju on his demise.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

The president further said “security forces have turned the heat on the terrorists who are getting frustrated and are soft-targeting innocent citizens, looting their assets, burning their homes and killing them indiscriminately.

“The president also reiterated his directive to the security and intelligence chiefs to do everything they can to destroy the remaining vestiges of the terrorists.”

Dr Iyorchia Ayu

MeanwhileNational Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu has condemned the spate of killings across the country.

The former Senate President, who likened the development to a war situation, said PDP succeeded in securing Nigeria while in power and called on citizens to team up with the party to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2023.

Ayu spoke weekend at the party’s headquarters, Abuja during the Annual General Meeting of the PDP Press Corps.

He said: “We are virtually in a war situation in Nigeria today. We are fighting bandits. We are fighting kidnappers; we are fighting all sorts of bandits and extremists who are killing, raping our mothers and daughters. None of you can sleep with your eyes closed because you are always wondering whether you are going to make it to the next day. You have to keep on highlighting these problems because the government has the fundamental responsibility of protecting lives and properties.

“We have a retired General as President and we thought these things will improve. We don’t need to talk as a political party or as an opposition, but you know exactly what is happening in our country is threatening even the very unity and existence of our country. I think you need accurate reporting of the events, which are not very glorious,” he said.

Ayu, who recalled practicing journalism at a younger age, challenged journalists to be courageous in the face of risk, particularly in this part of the world.

He said: “What we have fought against all along in this country is that we don’t want any institutionalized dictatorship. We want a country where people should be free to express their views, go about their businesses. And I believe the Nigerian media from history right from the time of independence has played a very very glorious role. They fought for independence; they sustained that fight, even during the military takeover. Some journalists lost their lives.

“If you remember the Dele Giwas, they lost their lives to what they believed in, for the love of the profession. I call on you to be courageous to follow in the footsteps of your forefathers in the profession. You will definitely make sacrifices.

“We have to educate not only Nigerians but also the international community, with your accurate reporting, of what we are trying to do as a party because it is only an informed electorate that makes the right choices. We believe we are here to offer Nigerians an alternative to what is going on today. But I think in the first 16 years, we did let’s say 100 or 90 per cent, but are much more determined to do better than what we did before.”

Ajayi Sends Farewell Message To Al Ahly

Nigerian striker, Junior Ajayi, sent a farewell message to Egyptian giants Al Ahly after the club announced they would be parting ways with him.

After five years, Ajayi’s journey with Al Ahly has ended after the club announced they have terminated his contract earlier this week.

The 25-year-old signed for the Red Devils in 2016 from Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, after having won the Olympic bronze medal with Nigeria

The 25-year-old hit the ground running in his first season with the Reds, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 39 games across all competitions.

He kept his form for the majority of his stay in Cairo, making a total of 161 appearances and lifting 11 trophies along the way. These titles include four Egyptian Premier Leagues, two Egypt Cups, two Egyptian Super Cups, two CAF Champions Leagues and the CAF Super Cup.

However, after a series of injuries and the signings of Percy Tau and Luis Miquissone, Ajayi slowly fell down the pecking order under head coach Pitso Mosimane and even failed to make a single appearance for the Reds this season.

Before leaving Cairo, Ajayi sent a message to the Al Ahly management and fans, thanking them for their support during his time at the club.

“It’s with profound gratitude to God almighty, that I announce the end of my contract with Al Ahly football club, to the management who has been nothing but family to me, my teammates who’s been my brothers and to my fans, you all have been my support system, thank you for holding it down with me through those years, you guys are the real MVPs, I love you all #nowtothenextphase,” he posted on Instagram account.

OPINION: The Bandits And My Homeland :Nigerian Highways

0
Since I can’t pay for the route above, I must go below for the journey by land is what average Nigerians like I undertake else I will have to splash my generational earnings on a flight ticket.
My journey has always been smooth: it was until now.
Now the scenario is a horror.
But before then, our only fears as Nigerians was vehicles colliding and blood spilling either out of recklessness or when death uses accidents as baits.
They say blood speaks…. I guess not for Nigerians or are we so defiled?
We see our clan maimed by our clan
If I had the guns and the wit, I would load it and empty it on the ones inhabiting the Sambisa.
They say bandits. We hear unknown gun men. Some say insurgents but I see People killing people and the ones abducted, should we termed them as lucky?
So when next am using a typical Nigerian Highway, I say my last prayers for the journey might be my last and if it isn’t, I thank the creator that the gentlemen of the highway didn’t show up for business.
Should we battle the outlaws overtaking the home of peace or resolve to fighting the ones taking over our roads?
There is so much to deal with in this country….. We have the inflation rising like the sun each day.
You’ve barely eaten talk more of being secure.
We dare not stop traveling. We need to trade, we need to feed and even when we stay, they come into our abodes, raze our lifetime entitlements in seconds and flee with our kindred.
So we wait on the ones we entrust our lives into. But then, what more can we do other than waiting after all, they show up when the bodies turn to ashes.
We pray. We always pray.
They slay. The BANDITS always slay.

Adamawa Speaker Is a ‘Monumetal Failure’ – PDP Bigwig

0

By: Abubakar Muhammad

A. A. Lawan Uba, a People’s Democratic Party bigwig in Adamawa State has said that Abbas Aminu Iya, the state’s assembly speaker is a ‘monumental failure’ to the state and his constituency.

He said since the speaker was voted into power in 2019, he has done nothing to improve the lives of the people of his constituency.

Lawan said this in a statement obtained from him by this reporter, where he noted that the speaker is only interested in serving his interest.

The speaker is representing Uba/Gaya constituency in Adamawa State House of Assembly.

He came to power with a margin of only 13 votes against Mohammed Hayatu Atiku of All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to Mr. Lawan, having come from the same political party and constituency with the speaker, he has played a vital role in championing the campaign and successes of the speaker during elections but has now regretted doing so because he is not serving the people.

‘Unfortunately, I supported an underperforming lawmaker, it is unfortunate we have a speaker who cannot work for the masses of our dear state and a legislature who is after his personal interest,’ Lawan said.

He added that the speaker is currently hiding behind Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of the state’s successes while scheming his way to national assembly in the forthcoming election and is calling on the governor and the masses to shun away the speaker’s plot.

‘He is busy going around scheming how to contest senatorial seat using Governor Ahmadu’s name. May I please tell my dear governor that this man can’t deliver anything good for our state, he doesn’t have the capacity and is not an electable and saleable political product.

‘His dream of wanting to become a senator for the central zone is a far-fetched one. I cannot see it coming into reality because we are no longer in the business of supporting a failure.

‘This man never contributed meaningfully to the development of our constituency in the floor of the house, I doubt it much if he has any law in the interest of Adamawa state,’ Lawan explained.

Lawan, also a former governorship aspirant in Adamawa, also alleged that the speaker’s victory in 2019 election was done through rigging of the election against the APC candidate.

Revealing how the speaker emerged, Lawan said ‘Iya never won the election, the APC candidate in our area gallantly won with over eight hundred votes, but Aminu received support from all stakeholders and the election was rigged in his favor. But in actual sense, I must tell you and the world should know that the APC man, Hayatu, inarguably won the election.’

However, Mr. Lawan in a chat on phone call with this reporter said that despite being in the same party, he felt it is mandatory to reveal to the world his incompetence because that is one of the major dividence of democracy and it shouldn’t be traded with anything.

He added that his loyalty to the party and government of the state is unshakeable and will continue to serve it wholeheartedly at any level.

There’s corruption in the system, says Remi Babalola in resignation letter to FBNH board

0

Remi Babalola, former chairman of FBN Holdings, says he resigned from the company because of the ”corruption in the system”.

Babalola was appointed chairman on April 30, 2021, and had not spent up to a year in office.

FBN Holdings is the parent company of First Bank of Nigeria.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) approved the appointment of Ahmad Abdullahi as non-executive director of First Bank Holding PLC and chairman of the company to replace Babalola.

In his resignation letter seen by TheCable, Babalola said he could no longer bear the “rot, stench and corruption in the system”.

“I accepted the appointment as a non-executive director and chairman of the board of FBN Holdings PLC on April 30th 2021 as a national call to service, an opportunity to deploy my endowments to illuminate humanity,” the letter reads.

“Since then, it has been a slug of herd work, sacrifices and battles. Nonetheless, we were able to push through within the last few months to achieve the following corporate governance overhaul : Reinstated confidence in the brand; stalled value eroding, merge propositions; transferred registrars for transparency; introduced openness and due processes in all transactions; unveiled significant investors, as well as pushed for improved performance.

“However, with the rot, stench and corruption in the system, it has been well-nigh impossible for me to break; and upon deep reflection and partial to my personal values, I write to formally resign my appointment as a non-executive director and chairman of the board of directors of FBN Holidays PLC, effective immediately.

“This should allow ample time for the institutions shareholders to plan a smooth transaction through the next Annual General Meeting.

“I thank you for the opportunity to serve the bank and to contribute to the sustainability of the financial service sector of the Nigerian economy.”

The exit of Babalola from the company comes a few days after it was confirmed that Femi Otedola made a significant investment in FBN Holdings with the acquisition of additional 2.5 percent stake, raising his entire stake in the company to 7.57 percent.

Despite his shareholding status, Otedola said the move was purely an investment decision and not to become the chairman or hold any key position in the company.

“Being the single largest shareholder doesn’t mean I must necessarily hold a position in the bank. I believe in allowing competent people to run institutions in a professional manner and to the benefit of all the stakeholders,” he had said.

Report Unauthorized Debits We Will Take It Up – CBN

0

Nigerians have been directed by the Central Bank of Nigeria to report cases of unauthorized debits.

Following an outcry over Nigerians losing money through unauthorized POS transactions, CBN’s spokesperson, Osita Nwanisobi said the apex bank would ensure that bank customers get a redress on issues of excess charges and unauthorised withdrawals.

He told TheCable;

“What you should be asking them (bank customers) is if they have reported those incidents to the CBN. We work based on the information we receive.

“We have channels, we have educated them, we have said that you have the right to complain if you get debited. We have written on our website about the cost of bank charges. If anybody is charging you more than what you see, what do you do?

“You need to report to CBN and we will take it up. Anytime we have done sensitisation, we showed them, in concrete terms, the amount we have recovered from banks and sent back to individuals.

“Customers should report to the CBN. We have channels, we have email addresses where they can reach us. That’s what they should do.”

Nwasinobi added that if banks fail to resolve complaints within two weeks, the customer can escalate the complaint to the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the CBN.

“If after lodging your complaint your Bank still fails to engage you and resolve the complaint within 2 Weeks as provided for in the ATM HELP DESK Circular, you have the right to escalate your complaint to the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the CBN.

“You can only direct your Complaints to CPD upon the failure of your Bank/Financial Institution to resolve your complaint within the 2 weeks timeline given by the CBN.”

The apex financial regulator said customers can contact the CPD by sending an email to
cpd@cbn.gov.ng, contactcbn@cbn.gov.ng or call +234 7002255226. Customers can lodge a complaint directly on the CBN website via this link.

Customers can also choose to write a letter addressed to the director, Consumer Protection Department, Central Business District, Abuja.

“Your letter of Complaint should be addressed to the Director, Consumer Protection Department. You can submit your letter at the CBN Head Office OR at any of the Central Bank of Nigeria branches of nationwide,” the CBN added.

“Your complaint should be clear and concise to avoid ambiguity. The Complaint letter (petition) should contain amongst other things the following:
• Name, Address, Contact Phone Number & E-mail of the Complainant;
• Name of your Financial Institution;
• Personal banking details (Do NOT include PIN & Passwords, please;)
